Young spring flower coming up

TNFD Party on May 2, 2023, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM

My Fine Folks,

We doubled up on special events in March, so we’ve had a dry April (dry of parties at TNFD, that is). May Day is probably the most appropriate, given the other choices: Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day, & Memorial Day. May Day is, of course, May 1st, which is a Monday, but if you say, “May-Day! May-Day!” then it’s May 2nd. That’s just how math works.

May Day is actually (approximately) the cross-quarter point between equinox and solstice, and that’s the time you celebrate your hard work of sowing fields that have now begun to sprout. That is, cool-weather and frost-tolerant crops sprouting, if you live in Colorado. As with all Pagan festivals, we should be lighting a bonfire to dance around. We’ll have to settle for a maypole, if someone has a living tree to relocate to the center of the dance floor for the night. Perhaps there will be May flowers?

I only have one name in May on my calendar of disclosed birthdays of regular Tuesday Night Folk Dancers, and her name is Mary Ellen. Now the pressure is on, because Mary Ellen has been baking birthday cakes and bringing potted plants for named birthday celebrants. If you have a May birthday or had/will have had one in April and would like recognition, let me know, and I’ll add you to the birthday calendar.

For those new to the TNFD Party Protocol, here we go:

  1. The 1st rule of TNFD Party Protocol is to have fun.
  2. You are encouraged, but not required, to bring a snack to share of the savory or sweet variety.
  3. You may bring your own alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage for yourself or to share (there’s not much participation in such at TNFD, except some around Christmas).
  4. There for sure will not be any teaching on party nights. I’ll just keep spinning the hits with some breaks with background table music for mingling, munching, and merriment, and we will, of course, have birthday singing.
  5. Be prepared for non-standard recordings being used for some favorite dances.

Peas, My Dudes, on this Fabulous 4/20,
David
