Diana S. introduced the Polish (by way of USA) dance W moim ogródecku to our group. In my quest to find out more information about and better versions of the music we use at TNFD, I came across the original source: a Polish Folk and Folklore band called Rokiczanka. Their site is barely translated into English, but it is certainly good enough to learn about them. There seems to be about fifteen singers and six players. Oh Boy! It could also just be ten women and four men in the normal grouping, but that’s still a lot of people.
Rokiczanka released their first album in 2011: “W moim ogródecku.” They have a video on YouTube for each track on the album. I suggest you watch the video for Rokiczanka – W moim ogródecku (Official HD Video), so that you can have this visualization as we dance. To get a better feeling for the band, check out the live version. Finally, have a look at the translation of the lyrics. This particular translation is a little rough, but you get the idea!
